BATTICALOA

Batticaloa is a coastal town which sits at the eastern edge of the island, centrally south of Trincomalee and north of Arugam Bay. Batticaloa’s local name is ‘Matakkalappu’ which is of Tamil origin and means ‘Muddy Swamp’.
