lla is one of the most picturesque parts of Sri Lanka’s tea-covered hills. The town is relaxed and peaceful, and its high elevation affords glorious views over the surrounding mountain peaks – on a clear day, you can see the sea of the south coast glinting on the horizon at the Ella Gap. This glorious landscape is best enjoyed on foot – go on gentle strolls through the extensive tea plantations, passing tea pluckers and local villages, or challenge yourself by climbing the short but steep steps of Little Adam’s Peak, or by hiking up Ella Rock – you will be rewarded with sensational views at the top.
The rugged and winding path to the top of the rock is stunning beyond words as dangling vines and towering trees unfold a fascinating world straight out of a fairytale. Also, you will walk through lush tea fields that stretch out as far as the eye could see. After a trek of approximately two hours, you take the final step and conquer the mighty top of Ella Rock. On a clear day though, an explorer who has labored up the not so easy trail leading to the summit of Ella Rock is rewarded with some of the most spectacular vistas of the mountains and valleys below. You can enjoy panoramic views of the Ella Gap to the south. Also, we try to start the hike as early as possible in the morning so that you can witness a glorious sunrise once you climb to the summit.

Walk along rustic footpaths sandwiched between tall grass and thorny bushes as the wind blow cold gusts in your faces every now and then. Covered in deep green vegetation that surroundings would stun you with the enormity of nature. This is approximately a 2km hike and is not as demanding as conquering Ella Rock. However, the views from the top of Little Adam’s Peak are bound to leave you awestruck. It is also believed to be the place where King Ravana engaged in his daily ritual of Worshipping the Sun God.

ust 2 km from Ella city, perched at an altitude of 82 feet is the Ravana cave, and Ravana falls. The history of Sri Lanka dates back to over 2000 years and it finds itself in the iconic Ramayana. It is believed that Ravana captured Sita and kept her hostage in his custody in the famous, Ravana caves and the Ravana falls. Landscapes around the Ravana falls comprises of slopes, valleys, hills and streams that ornament the rocks.
The water pours down at high velocity and makes a sweet thud as it hits the pools of water. The breeze is another factor that adds to its beauty. In the evenings the breeze is at full swing, that the roar of the wind competes with the sound of the gushing waters.

No trip is more scenic than taking the train from Elle and you can decide your destination depending on the time at hand. You can pick from Kandy, Badulla, Demodara, Hatton, Nanu Oya (station of Nuwara Eliya) or for a longer journey to Colombo Fort. Either way you are bound for an unforgettable experience. You will see beautiful green hills covered with tea plantations, mountains, lovely old bridges, waterfalls, small villages, and you are greeted by lots of local kids running along the train tracks.
The Railway system in Sri Lanka was initially built by the British in 1864. The main reason was to transport tea and coffee from the Hill Country to Colombo for shipping internationally.

The two-wire zip-line stretches for more than half a kilometer, slides at a maximum speed of 80kmph, and offers a bird’s-eye view of the beautiful hills of the island. • Flying Ravana Zip Line restrictions: Min weight – 30kg, Max weight – 110kg | Min height – 90cm, Max height – 210cm
• Clothing – Wear clothes that are not too loose and baggy (you don’t want to get them caught on anything). Skirts and dresses are not recommended. Bring something to tie your long hair.
• Weather: During thunderstorms and heavy rains Zipline operations will be kept temporarily on hold.
